About

Claire Ryan is a graphic/web designer, all-round computer expert, programmer, data analyst, and aspiring writer. She currently lives in Vancouver, Canada, having escaped from the untamed wilderness that is the south of Ireland.

She has a Bachelor’s degree in Geology, of all things, and a Higher Diploma in Modelling and Numerical Computing, which is exactly as boring as it sounds. Rather than pursue a career in academics, she decided to become a useful member of society by getting a real job – and immediately regretted it. Claire currently works as a freelancer.

She has developed a mixed bag of skills while being out in the real world, including various things to do with SQL databases, programming, websites, graphic design, administration and management, as well as a few more important skills such as how to fix computers.

She is an advocate of open source software, and uses Ubuntu Linux for preference. She also plays computer games on the PC and Xbox.

Claire has been writing since she was twelve, and had a lot of pretty terrible ideas until she finally decided to get serious around the age of twenty-five. She is now on her third book, the first two being utterly crap, and is hoping to start querying agents this year. Chasing the Core is a fantasy story about assassins and pirates set in a world where magic is poison. There’s other stuff in it too. Trust me, it’s good.

She likes to talk to other authors, if only so she can complain about not writing. If you’re feeling brave, you can contact Claire by email here.
